About

Growing up in a home full of jazz and later trained as an operatic mezzo-soprano, Rachel Rynick’s road to alternative rock was a winding one, but her unique background has led her to a rich, complex sound, always anchored by her powerful, passionate vocals.

As a songwriter, Rachel’s Buddhist upbringing is reflected in her darkly vibrant lyrics that wrestle with the pain and suffering of life while celebrating the joy of compassion and connection.  Rachel’s writing harnesses the power of music to help us bear the unbearable, embrace the transcendent, and tune ourselves in to a deeper experience of our beautiful, messy lives.

On her new release “Where the Light Enters You”, Rachel’s second collaboration with producer Sean McLaughlin, her playing (voice, piano, ukulele, and even drums on one track!) is supported by an incredible cast of musicians like Chris Bloniarz, who plays organ, keyboards, banjo and mandolin.  The grungy guitars of Zach Bloomstein and Tony Savarino are balanced by Rachel’s lush string arrangements; brilliantly brought to life by Eva Walsh, Jonah Sacks, and Paul Dilley.  The dark, fierce drums of Mike Levesque are brightened by the trumpet and flugelhorn of Garret Savluk and the trombone of Lennie Peterson.  This giant smorgasbord of sound is seamlessly woven together by Rachel’s thoughtful arrangements and Sean’s expert mixing and bass playing into music worth paying attention to.Growing up in a home full of jazz and later trained as an operatic mezzo-soprano, Rachel Rynick’s road to alternative rock was a winding one, but her unique background has led her to a rich, complex sound, always anchored by her powerful, passionate vocals.
